About us

Salvaged wood is an invaluable resource that can add special character to a project.  The ridge beam used in this cabana's roof was rescued from the demolition of a local barn dating back to the 1890s, which combined with cedar achieve a unique look.

Manitoulin Island is the Worlds largest freshwater Island. It is located in the North Channel of Lake Huron.
European missionaries, farmers and cattlemen have inhabited the Island due to the way our trade routes were established since 1600-1700.
Some of the farms still exist but many of the properties and buildings are no longer being used leaving many barns and outbuildings to rot and decay.

We search for downed and decaying barns and buildings to made furniture, trim and doors with.

Below:
Here is a great example of Maple trees harvested for firewood. We worked out a deal with Al, our neighbour, to use all the spalted and gorgeous gigantic maple logs harvested for firewood taking the best pieces for furniture. We work with friends and neighbours trading labour for fallen trees or firewood that we then turn into beautiful home accessories and furniture.
Efficiency and co-operation are the key to a huge flow of the finest lumber to make tables and live edge creations.
If you buy a piece of lumber from a store or company that just forwards materials or profits as a middles-man is it really Eco-friendly?
We are more of a co-operative than a company and we don't pay for barn board ever!
TRUE SALVAGE using the old ways of barn raising and trading services as if if we lived in the 1900 century.

Visit us and see what we mean. We truly welcome anyone and Steve has a bed and breakfast with apartments if you want to stay long term.

Here Steve is using a portable chainsaw mill to slab pieces where the trees can't be moved easily until cut into manageable slabs and beams.

Cutting this took over an hour but it is worth the labour. This is guitar grade spalted and curly maple!
